Memorial Day weekend is upon us. For some of us it means a weekend at the beach. Going to barbeque and picnics with friends and families. Unfortunately, for many American families Memorial Day can bring on the grief of the loss of a loved one who was in the military. These men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice, leaving behind parents, spouses and children whose lives will forever be changed. Soldiers are usually in the prime of life, with new families and parents who never wanted to outlive their children. The loss of a soldier may have been recent or many years ago, but family members may have a harder time around holidays such as Memorial Day where much of the news coverage and even advertisements mention soldiers and the armed forces.

I have been Mental Health Counselor now for 7 years with my primary focus on Marriage and Relationship Counseling and Life Coaching here in Orlando, Florida. For a long time I have felt I didn’t have an effective tool to work with my clients who were experiencing anxiety, depression, pain, anger, and panic. I have tried many things, I got certified in Hypnotherapy but did not find that as effective as I had hoped. I attended a week long workshop on Cognitive Behavioral methods for overcoming these symptoms with David Burns, MD the well know psychiatrist who wrote such best selling books as “The Feeling Good Handbook” and “When Panic Attacks”. His techniques are great and I did have some success using them but I still felt there must be something better, more rapid, and which my clients could effectively use at home to reinforce our work in session. So I continued my search.
Over the last 2 years I kept hearing about the method called “EFT-The Emotional Freedom Technique” but when I researched it my natural skepticism kicked in-this method involved “tapping” on your body while making specific statements and this just sounded too weird and far fetched for me. But EFT kept coming into my life in various forms. A client would ask about it, a colleague would share their positive results with it, and I would read articles about it in professional journals.
So I decided to put my toe in the water by attending a workshop for the general public on EFT. What I observed was nothing short of amazing. On the first weekend issues that were resolved and symptoms that were dramatically reduced by attendees included overwhelming anxiety created by real life events, pain and numbness from MS, a sense of despair and hopelessness about life in general. But the most astonishing part was that on the second weekend the attendees were still describing the same or increased levels of improvement. So my skepticism was over and I dove in and attended a professional training.

Relationship building is a fundamental part of a person’s social life. The fact is that, whether we realize it or not, most people spend a great deal of time and energy dealing with the dynamics of relationships. We are either happy in a relationship, wanting to get out of one, trying to get into one, or not sure if we are in one. And even though we might sometimes feel as though a romantic relationship is the last thing we need, we inevitably find ourselves drawn into one or desiring one.
Going through a difficult relationship is something that happens to everyone, and even when our experiences seem to be more painful than anything else we embrace the next relationship with the hope that it will be better. This is because, even after recovering from a failed relationship, we are still human.
How can I find that special person, the one I get along with and makes me happy? Is it a matter of luck? How can I get out of this cycle of bad relationships? How can I find the right one? Would I even recognize the right person if I came across him or her? These are all valid questions and they all have answers.
What about starting with something new? In the JOURNEY TO LOVE Program led by

When you look in the mirror who do you see? Do you focus on your bright eyes, friendly smile and go about your day? Or do you spend time focusing on what you would change if you could. Maybe my nose could be smaller? I wish my face was clearer! If only I could lose 15(25,30,50) pounds, then I would be happy!
Often times our emotional health is tied to the way we feel about our bodies. Our bodies are amazing vehicles. They get us through the day, meeting and interacting with new people. Our bodies can create life, run marathons and dive into the ocean. Too many of us focus on what our bodies CAN’T do. I CAN’T fit into the jeans I wore last year! I CAN’T run a mile without stopping, it’s impossible! I CAN’T ever be happy looking the way I look!

Since I began this journey in becoming a life coach, I have heard over and over again, “ what is a life coach?” To a former classroom teacher, and now yoga teacher for teens in a private school, I think “it’s what I’ve been doing my whole career!” Teachers who care about their students, like I do, spend much of their time being a listening ear, a guide, motivator, and someone gently holding them accountable to achieving wonderful goals!
Athletes, and executives have used private coaches for years. Many parents get specialized sports coaching for their children. As an Orlando Life Coach for Children, Teens, and Young Adults I am so excited to be able to help them with goals concerning academics, organization, social issues, and health and fitness. I have been “coaching” my students for over 20 years with these issues, and through my certification training with Dr. Shad Helmstetter and The Life Coach Institute, I developed specific tools to work one on one with my clients. We will meet regularly to identify the goals they want to achieve. I will help them track their progress, take action steps to overcome obstacles, and be there for them through email, or phone calls to keep them moving in the right direction.
I intend to be a mentor who will help young people respect their own individuality, recognize their unique talents, and have the confidence to go forth in the world with a sense of self worth and the tools to face life’s challenges independently.
